May 16th - Carver's Orchard for Lunch/Planning Meeting - Join us for this ride through the back roads of East Tennessee and for lunch at Carver's Apple Farm and Restaurant. During lunch, dates will be set for the upcoming rides to South Dakota and Vermont. After lunch, more county roads in East Tennessee. Note-You do not have to attend this ride to be a part of the organization of the two long distance rides. Depart from Citgo/McDonalds on I-40, Exit 407 at 9:00 A.M. RC=Dan Harvey
May 17th - Cherohala Skyway - Maybe it is warm enough to head over the Skyway without freezing our whatchacallems off? We will eat a late lunch in Robbinsville and we will NOT return via the Dragon but through Cherokee. Depart from Citgo/McDonalds on I-40, Exit 407 at 9:00 A.M. RC=Dan Harvey
May 23rd - Four States, Chapter 2 - This is a repeat of last years ride with just enough change to make it interesting to those who are going to do it with me again. We will travel through Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia before returning back to Tennessee. Think we might be on the big roads? Hah! Just the opposite my friends. Last year we found ourselves using lower gears more often than high gear. Expect lots of twisties! Note this is not a ride for beginners. It will be a long day covering about 350 miles. There will be a lot of challenging roads with wonderful scenery as a reward. The number of stops/breaks will be limited. Depart from Citgo/McDonalds on I-40, Exit 407 at A.M. RC=Dan Harvey
May 24th - Maggie Valley for lunch then to Hot Springs, N.C. - So, you think Rt. 209 is the best route to Hot Springs? Well kinda, but expect some deviation from the regular route. Depart from Citgo/McDonalds on I-40, Exit 407 at 9:00 A.M. RC=Dan Harvey

July 2nd - July 5th - Blue Ridge Parkway - Ride the Interstates to Front Royal, Virginia, then leave the big road for the remainder of the trip. We will ride the entire length of Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Watch for more details to be posted as the time gets closer. Ride Details RC=Dan Harvey

August 1st - 9th - York/Gettysburg, PA. Depart from I-40, Exit 407 in Knoxville, TN at 8:00 AM Sharp. We will ride on I-81 to Abingdon, VA. where we will hot the back roads as we head Northeast up through Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. While we are in Pennsylvania we will tour museums in York, the Harley factory and other attractions. We will take one day to tour the Amish country and a day in Gettysburg touring the museum and battlefield. We may get on the Interstate for short distances, but our goal is to avoid it as much as possible. RIDE DETAILS RC=Dan Harvey
August 29th - September 7th (Labor Day) - Vermont Covered Bridges. We have over 100 Waypoints made for covered bridges in Vermont and New Hampshire. Escape the heat by heading North and riding the scenic back roads and highways of New England. RIDE DETAILS RC=Dan Harvey

October 17th - 18th - Carl Long Fundraiser in Charlotte, N.C
Who? Carl Long is a part-time NASCAR Nextel Cup and Nationwide Series driver. He operates on a very limited budget but is able to scrape together enough money to make a few races a year. He is 41 years old, married and has two small children. Carl and his wife are also CRGR members.
What?
In May, 2009 at Charlotte’s Lowes Motor Speedway
and at a non-points race, Carl put an engine on the track that exceeded NASCAR
regulations. The engine had a catastrophic failure and was later inspected by
NASCAR and found to be 358.17 CI which is .17 over the limit. NASCAR fined Carl
$200,000 which is the largest monetary fine in NASCAR history.
Why? We feel this fine is an injustice to Carl because he bought the
engine from a reputable builder of NASCAR engines and has nothing to do with it
being over the limit. He did obviously violate the rules by taking the engine to
the track not knowing there was an issue. Carl has possible avenues of
litigation against the engine builder however, that could take years to
accomplish. If the fine is not paid by the end of the year, Carl will likely be
out of work. (He will not be permitted to return to the track per NASCAR
regulations.)
When? Our Bobby Smith will be your RC as he leads this RIDE OR DRIVE via scenic routes to Hickory, N.C. where you will spend Saturday night. The next morning you will travel to Mooresville, N.C. and the Memory Lane Museum for the event. Afterwards, you will return to Knoxville via the Interstate.
CRGR is not charging anything to attend this ride. There is a minimum $35 per person registration fee which will also include admission to Memory Lane Museum. http://www.memorylaneautomuseum.comOK, I’m in! What do I do now?
Pick a location where you want to meet us and Email bobby@countryroads.org. Tell him you plan to attend and where you will meet him based on his list of locations.
