June 23rd – 24th
July 4th - July 8th - West Virginia,
Skyline Dr. and BRPW - We will leave from Knoxville at
7 AM on Wednesday,
July 4th and return on Sunday, July 8th. This ride will cover about 1,300
miles of the scenic Appalachian Mountains and almost all of the travel will be
on two lane highways. We will be riding in the higher (and cooler) elevations
for a large part of the trip.
Our approach to this ride is simple. Ride nearly 400 miles the first day to get
"out of town" so to speak, then slow down and take in the scenery. Within that
first 400 miles are familiar places such as Greenbank Radio Telescope, The Elk
River Scenic Trail, Cass Scenic Railroad etc. but we have already been there and
done that (many times actually), so we will move on past those areas for the new
adventures. We will be riding through Pocahontas County WV which is known for
it's great motorcycle roads. Expect to visit Harper's Ferry National Park and
other educational points before we
ride the entire length of Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
As you know, the week of July 4th always means busy highways. Hotels fill up
early and those that are reasonably priced fill up even sooner. Contact the RC
as soon as you know you want to attend this ride.
